Carmarthenshire Crowned Champions at the 2025 Wales YFC National Eisteddfod

Theatre Hafren in Newtown was the proud host of the 2025 Wales YFC National Eisteddfod. On November 15th, Montgomery YFC welcomed competitors and supporters from across Wales to their county for a day of exciting competitions, celebration, and Welsh culture. This year, the Eisteddfod was chaired by Lynfa Jones, with Aled Wyn Davies serving as Eisteddfod President.

Over 800 competitors from 12 county federations took part in a wide range of events, kindly sponsored by James Pantyfedwen, Castell Howell, Hafren Veterinary Group, Hafren Furnishers, Field Mouse, FUW Montgomeryshire Branch, Coed y Bryn Nurseries, BSW Group – Tilhill, and Barcud.

Competitions spanned music, recitation, light entertainment, and homework sections—including writing, art, and photography.

After a full day of contests, Carmarthenshire emerged as overall winners of the Mansel Charles Trophy. Pembrokeshire finished in second place, and Ceredigion YFC and Montgomery YFC came joint third.

A highlight of the day was the Chairing and Crowning Ceremony, led by Angharad Lewis. This year’s Chair, sponsored by Coed y Bryn Nurseries, was crafted by former Berriew YFC member Paul Philips. The winning Chair was awarded to Mared Fflur Jones from Rhosybol YFC, Ynys Môn, while Fflur Haf James from Eglwyswrw YFC, Pembrokeshire, took the Crown created by David Dart a Robi Wood o CFfI Cegidfa.

The Eisteddfod was filled with results throughout the day.

Individual accolades included:

  • Parcwilws Cup (best solo musical/film performance): Daniel O’Callaghan, Carmarthenshire YFC
  • Ardudwy Cup (best musical soloist): Daniel O’Callaghan, Carmarthenshire YFC
  • Wales YFC Cup (best recitation): Daniel O’Callaghan, Carmarthenshire YFC
  • Joy Cornock Cup (most promising competitor): Cari Lovelock, Ynys Môn
Parcwilws Cup (best solo musical/film performance): Daniel O’Callaghan, Carmarthenshire YFC
Joy Cornock Cup (most promising competitor): Cari Lovelock, Ynys Môn

Seven choirs competed in the Choir competition, performing ‘Cana imi Gân o Heddwch’. Meirionnydd YFC came first, winning the Dyffryn Tywi Cup, with Sir Gâr YFC in second place and Montgomery YFC in third.

Other notable awards included:

  • Elonwy Phillips Shield (winning federation in stage competitions): Sir Gâr YFC
