Sports Day 2024

On Sunday 16th June 2024, members from across Wales travelled to Brecon to compete at the Wales YFC Sports Day. The morning kicked off with the Men’s 5-a-side Football, refereed by Anthony Turner from Builth Wells Junior Football Club. With matches to rival the Euros, it promised to be a thrilling morning of footballing action. In the end, it was Ceredigion who scored their way to victory, while Radnor secured second place and Montgomery finished in third position.

Meanwhile, the Junior Rounders was taking place with Wales YFC President Sarah Lewis keeping an eye on proceedings. There was some fantastic batting and fielding on display from all teams, but in the end, it was Montgomery who came out as victors. Ceredigion were placed second and Brecknock third.

A new sport for this year was the Dynamo Cricket, umpired by Terry Dickson. Two great teams battled it out over 40 balls each, with some great sportsmanship on show and the result was extremely close. However, it was Ceredigion that took the win with Brecknock came a close second.

Another new addition this year was the Senior Mixed Volleyball, and we were grateful of the support of Brecon Volleyball Club who provided the net, and Jayne Jones from Cardiff Volleyball Club who officiated the matches. It was a fun few hours in the sunshine, with members testing their skills as they served, blocked and spiked the ball to try and edge their way to victory. After some thrilling games it was Brecknock who volleyed their way to victory, Montgomery came second and Pembrokeshire a very close third.

We also saw the return of the Ladies Netball, with some fantastic shooting and great defending, it was clear from the outset that this would be a top-class tournament! In the end it was Brecknock that claimed the win, Montgomery came second and Gwent third. Thank you to Carys Ricketts for umpiring these games for us.

With five sports concluded, it was then time to head to the Athletics Track, with a range of different races on offer. From long distance to sprints, as well as the Relay races, there was something for everyone. Congratulations to all of the winners and competitors that took part.

It was great to see so much sporting skill on show throughout the whole day, well done to everyone that competed. Thank you also to everyone who helped make it such a success. The full results and gallery are available on the Wales YFC website.
