AGM IN CAERNARFON TO LAUNCH THE NEW YFC YEAR

YFC members from across Wales travelled to Caernarfon to attend the Federations recent Annual General Meeting held at ‘Y Galeri’.

During the AGM on Saturday the 21st September, members elected a number of officials for the year ahead. The meeting was chaired by Wales YFC President Mrs Sarah Lewis. Rhys Richards finished his role as Wales YFC Chair after a successful year in post. Wales YFC would like to thank Rhys for all his hard work and dedication towards the organisation. Dewi Davies, from Llanddeiniol YFC in Ceredigion was elected as Chair and Angharad Thomas, Carmarthenshire YFC, as Vice Chair for the forthcoming year.

Winners of various awards were also announced during the meeting. The NFU Cymru Membership Trophy for the largest increase in membership gained in the past twelve months, when compared to the figures from the 2022-2023 year was awarded to Ceredigion YFC, with a 11.54% increase in their membership. The Beynon Thomas Trophy for the Federation winning the highest number of marks in the activities programme for Junior members during the YFC year 2023/24 was Radnor YFC. Finally, the Western Mail Trophy for the Federation winning the highest number of marks in all the YFC programmes in 2023/24 was Ceredigion YFC.

After the AGM, four sub-committee meetings were held, Rural Affairs, Competitions, Events & Marketing and International. During the meetings committee members discussed upcoming projects, competitions, events and trips for the 2024/2025 year. Each sub-committee then elected new Chairs and Vice-Chairs for the forthcoming year. The new Chair for Rural Affairs is Dominic Hampson-Smith from Gwent YFC with Ifan Davies from Meirionnydd YFC taking on the role of Vice Chair. In the Competitions Sub-Committee, Deryn Evans from Brecknock YFC was elected Chair with Elin Lewis from Montgomery YFC taking on the role of Vice Chair. Rhiannon Williams from Gwent YFC is the new Chair for Events and Marketing and Rhodri Jones from Eryri YFC takes on the role of Vice Chair. And lastly, Cathrin Jones from Carmarthenshire YFC is the new Chair for the International Sub-Committee with Will Hughes from Ynys Môn taking on the role of Vice Chair.

Wales YFC would like to thank the 2023-2024 officers for their hard work over the last year.

Dewi Davies, newly elected Chair of Wales YFC said; “It is a privilege to be chair of Wales YFC for the 2024-2025 year! I look forward to meeting and working with members, officials and supporters of the movement across Wales and beyond over the next 12 months.”

Angharad Thomas, newly elected Vice Chair of Wales YFC, said; “I am still in complete shock to be Wales YFC’s Vice Chair for the forthcoming year. I’m looking forward to the year ahead and can’t wait to work with the new Wales YFC Officers.”
