Fundraising accomplishments:

We had very little money in the account for us this year so we held duck race to support our members and parents as their journey starts on the YFC journey. With huge thanks to our wonderful parents for selling ducks – the duck race took place at Tylebrythos, Cantref at one of our members homes. Not your usual duck race – as we looked up the field – a plastic sheet, fairy liquid and shampoo, some obstacles and a tractor bucket full of yellow plastic ducks made their way down the piste! Over £800 was raised to support our members with things they will need over the course of the year.

Your work within the community:

Libanus YFC are always happy to step up to help in the community, from carol singing with the Santa sleigh run to decorating Cantref Church and donating food for the food bank for this years Harvest service. Bringing our club altogether from young children to the parents is really important and we all work as a team. The support we have had has been incredible. Next year we will be helping to set up the NSA Wales event as a club.

Favourite competitions:

Unexpectedly, the stage in Theatr Brycheiniog gave our little club a chance to shine in February. This was the springboard for our members to show others the belief they had in themselves and the belief we had in them as parents. Since then, from athletics, stock judging, reading and lamb trimming – the way our members are building in confidence is exceptional. Their attitude is to have a go and we all embrace that.

How do you use the Welsh Language?

We have three members who are fluent Welsh speakers and we have entered Welsh reading competition in the Eisteddfod, possibly one of the first Welsh speaking teams to enter for Libanus. The three members were in Ysgol y Bannau together and now split between Brecon High and Ystalyfera continuing their Welsh medium language.

Any other fun facts or slogans etc.:

As a way of inspiring the children for their one Plus – ‘Up Along the Gap Road’, the parents all stunned the children during one rehearsal and dressed up and played the children’s parts. This spurred the children on no end, trying to beat their parents version!!! And what a good sport Anne Marie was – dressing up as the dog !!!! Needless to say – we all work on the proviso ‘Have a Go’
