Baby Beef and Prime Lamb Training Day
The members who attended a Training Day at Tŷ Isaf Farm with Ryan Jones and his family had a day of learning and picking up ‘tips’ on Sunday the 9th of November. The members came together to learn how to prepare for the Baby Beef and Prime Lamb Producer competitions at the Winter Fair. With Ryan being a former winner of the Baby Beef competition, who better to inspire and train the members competing this year. Ryan showed how he would go about preparing an animal for the show ring step by step, starting with preparing its coat so that he could handle it better, drying the coat ready for trimming and then how he would trim the animal.
When he had the animal ready he showed the members how they would be expected to exhibit the animal in the show ring. He also showed how he would display a pair of lambs in the show ring and how both members are required to work together in order to be able to show their pair of lambs at their best.
Before the day ended he showed an example of the information board he had prepared, all the members competing will be asked to create a display board to accompany their calf or pair of lambs at the Winter Fair.
The Rural Affairs Committee and Wales YFC are very grateful to Ryan and family for the welcome the members received at Tŷ Isaf and for sharing their knowledge with the members. Remember to pop over to the Cattle lines and Lamb shed at the Winter Fair to see and support the members who will be there competing.
