BEST GRASSLAND MANAGEMENT AWARD
2025 – DANIEL WILLIAMS
Daniel works alongside his Father and Mother at their family farm, with seasonal help at lambing time from his brother, sister and good friend, Eilir. Daniel is involved in the process of taking a new farm tenancy of a 270 acer farm. He is building his own stock in preparation and has purchased 120 crossbred ewes to add to his own pedigree flock. He is also in the process of rearing 45 dairy bred calves to graze next winter with an aim of fattening by 18 months following the same pattern as they are currently following. They farm a total area of 500 acers all grass in 7 blocks, 200 acers owned and the rest rented.

2024 – MORGAN TUDOR
Llysun was a Beef and Sheep farm for 45 years. In 2018 the family decided to sell the stock and buy dairy calves in their place. Since 2020 Llysun has been a dairy farm, and today there are 450 Jersey X Friesian cows which are all calved in spring, producing 5,500 litres a year. The cattle are out from March to mid-November and graze on a rotational grazing system. Morgan has tried most grazing systems over the years but settled on rotational grazing with the dairy cows, ‘strip grazing’ with the calves on the kale over the winter, and ‘block grazing’ with heifers on the mountain. Llysun is a family farm with Morgan, his mother Catrin and his grandparents Ann and Tom Tudor all partners in the business. Morgan works on the farm full time with one full-time member of staff and two half-time members of staff. Morgan makes the decisions on a day-to day basis but everything is discussed with the staff and the big decisions are discussed with the partners
