Wales YFC is celebrating a significant milestone in the organisation’s history following a decision by the Gorsedd Board that, from now on, winners of the Chair and the Crown at the Wales YFC Eisteddfod who are aged 18 or over will receive an invitation to be admitted to the Gorsedd at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

The proposal was formally submitted by Wales YFC, and the decision recognises both the high standard of the literary competitions at the Wales YFC Eisteddfod and the valuable contribution made by members of the organisation to Welsh culture and the Welsh language.

Mared Jones, Chief Executive of Wales YFC, said:

“This is fantastic news for Wales YFC. For many years, the Wales YFC Eisteddfod has nurtured outstanding young poets, writers and creative talent, and it is a privilege to see their achievements recognised by the Gorsedd. I would like to sincerely thank the Gorsedd Board and Christine James, Recorder of the Gorsedd, for their support and willingness to recognise the contribution that Wales YFC members make to our culture and our language.”

During Monday’s ceremony at the National Eisteddfod, Fflur James from Pembrokeshire YFC, winner of the Crown at the 2025 Wales YFC Eisteddfod, was admitted to the Gorsedd under the new arrangement.

Mared Jones of Ynys Môn YFC, winner of the Chair at the 2025 Wales YFC Eisteddfod, is already a member of the Gorsedd.

The Wales YFC Eisteddfod is one of the organisation’s flagship cultural events, providing a platform for young members to showcase their talents in literature, music, drama and the arts. This decision strengthens the relationship between Wales YFC and the Gorsedd, ensuring that the literary achievements of the organisation’s members receive the national recognition they deserve.
