RURAL CHAMPION AWARD

2025 – SIAN LEWIS

Sian Lewis is a member of Llanfyllin YFC who works on her family farm full time, she farms beef, dairy and sheep and has done so all her life. There’s not a moment of the day that goes by where she is not thinking about how to improve the running of the farm and how to get our young members interested in the YFC and into agriculture even from non farming backgrounds. Alongside her day job and YFC work, she has been the Llanfyllin show secretary for the past 5 years. The show has been a huge part of her and her family’s life and she is the youngest secretary since the Show started 155 years ago. Sian organises fundraising events to raise money for local charities such as the local Orthopaedic Hospital and Lingen Davies Cancer Trust. The farm has recently been part of an initiative linked to schools where children who find school life challenging or who have had challenges in their lives, come to help on the farm every Tuesday. She feels that being part of this allows her to give back to the community that has given her so much.

2024 – MEGAN POWELL

Megan Powell comes from a farming background but her parents were not actively farming when she was growing up, therefore during her time as a YFC member, she has grasped every opportunity to further her appreciation and understanding of the agricultural sector and issues impacting rural communities.
