SUSTAINABLE DAIRY STOCKPERSON AWARD
NEW for 2025, this award seeks to find a member that sees the opportunities and challenges of becoming a more sustainable stockperson, that is keen to move forwards and embrace change whereby it is positive. Someone that has some control over at least one enterprise on the farm and has started to outline and make improvements within the enterprise or farm business.
2025 – FRANCES EVANS
It is a family run business, where Frances, her mum and dad run all aspects of management on the farm, and employ 5 members of staff full time, along with 4 part-time. Her father manages the feeding, feed supply, field work and maintenance. Her Mum attends to the calves and finance aspect of the business. Frances looks after the herd management of the milking cows and youngstock.
They do all veterinary work onsite, including AI, pregnancy diagnosis and fertility sync programmes, and all hoof trimming. They milk 500 pedigree Holstein cows, three times a day, and run a high-input, high-output system yielding 12,700 litres per cow, per year. They plan to expand the herd in the coming years, along with taking on another farm to move youngstock off-site to allow for more housing space for our milking herd.
