Theatre Hafren lights up purple to welcome Wales YFC to Montgomeryshire!

The Wales YFC Eisteddfod returns this weekend, Saturday 15th November 2025, to Theatr Hafren, Newtown. This annual event celebrates the creativity and talent of young farmers across Wales, featuring competitions in singing, recitation, sketches, dances, mimes, light entertainment, and homework in both Welsh and English.

This year is particularly special as the host county, Montgomery YFC, welcomes the national YFC Eisteddfod into the county for the first time since 1999, highlighting local pride and the dedication of its Young Farmers’ Clubs. The Eisteddfod is described as the only bilingual event of its kind in Wales. All participants have already won at their county rounds in October and will now compete in Newtown to determine who is the best in Wales.

Doors open at 9:00am, with the day running until 11:30pm. While auditorium tickets have sold out online, the competitions can be enjoyed from the dedicated ‘Fan Zone’ at the Theatre where the competitions will be live streamed to a big screen straight from the stage giving supporters the chance to be part of the atmosphere and socialise with people from across Wales. Or alternatively, enjoy the competitions from home on S4C between 3pm–5pm and again from 8pm until the end of the Eisteddfod.

The bilingual format allows performers to showcase their Welsh language skills while remaining accessible to English-speaking members. Beyond competition, the Eisteddfod celebrates creativity, teamwork, and community spirit, reflecting the social and cultural life of rural Wales. For the 863 participants, preparation, rehearsals, and understanding the rules are essential, while spectators enjoy a full day of entertainment, refreshments, and the energy of rural youth. Volunteers and local supporters play a vital role, and Wales YFC is extremely grateful for their contributions.

Highlights include the chairing and crowning ceremony. This year’s Bardic Chair was created by Paul Phillips, a past member of Berriew YFC, while the crown was designed by David Dart and Robi Wood, former members of Guilsfield YFC and accomplished designers.

Wales YFC would like to thank the Montgomeryshire Eisteddfod committee including Lynfa Jones this year’s chairperson and Aled Wyn Davies the president for all their hard work. They would also like to thank the 2025 sponsors: James Pantyfedwen, Castell Howell, Hafren Veterinary Group, Hafren Furnishers, Field Mouse, FUW Montgomeryshire branch, Coed y Bryn Nurseries, BSW Group – Tilhill and Barcud.

The Wales YFC Eisteddfod is more than a competition; it is a celebration of tradition, youth culture, and community. With performances from across Wales and a lively, welcoming atmosphere, Newtown will be at the heart of Welsh cultural life this weekend.
