Wales YFC 2020 Virtual Winter Fair

Wales YFCs annual Winter Fair will go ahead this year across the organisations virtual platforms.

Taking place on Monday 30th November and Tuesday 1st December, Wales YFC member’s entries  from all 12 county federations will come together virtually to be featured in the 2020 annual Wales YFC Winter Fair.

Not wanting to disappoint, despite having to collate a programme suitable for virtual competitions which responsively was made easier due to the success of the Virtual Royal Welsh in July, we have been able to maintain a similar programme of competitions on a virtual basis. This includes stockjudging.

Rather than congregating in the cold and draughty sheds in white coats on the royal Welsh show ground, members from both the senior and junior categories came together over Zoom on Sunday 22nd November from the warmth and comfort of their own homes to compete in eight various stockjudging competitions.

‘Ready Steady YFC Cook Off’ is a new feature in the programme for this year and challenges competitors to create a recipe in 40 minutes following a demonstration by the judge over Zoom. Competitors will have no prior insight into the culinary conditions apart from an ingredients and equipment list received before the event. Other competitions include a yule log and cupcake decorating, floral arranging table center pieces and hedge laying.

Also to be announced as part of the events proceedings will be the winner of the £1,000 Wales YFC Agricultural Bursary in association with The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales. We will also be announcing the winner of the recent ATV Challenge which gave members the chance to win the use of a brand new quad bike for the year, courtesy of Quad Bikes Wales.

Speaking about the event, Katie Court, Wales YFC Competitions Committee Chair said:

“Whilst this year’s Winter Fair might not be the not the usual affair in Builth members of Wales YFC have still provided us with entries of an excellent standard! Congratulations to everyone who has competed – I look forward to sharing all the results with you across the Wales YFC social media on Monday and Tuesday’

Kindly Sponsoring the event this year is Wynnstay (Agricultural Supplies) Ltd. CEO Gareth Davies said:

“At Wynnstay we are very pleased to be sponsoring the Wales YFC Virtual Winter Fair 2020. Whist the red meat sector is currently strong the future path is currently uncertain. However, we do know that the demands upon our future farmers will be a mix of traditional and newly acquired husbandry, technical and business management skills. Therefore, we at Wynnstay believe it is vitally important to support the next generation

of individuals entering the agricultural industry, and our support of Wales YFC is one of the ways in which we do this.

We wish YFC members good luck across the various competitions, and we very much hope to be seeing you in person at the Welsh Winter Fair in 2021.”

Results will be published on the Wales YFC website results page https://yfc.wales/category/results/ from 5:30pm on Monday and Tuesday evening following the release of entries through the course of each day on all four of our social media channels.
