Wales YFC Members pull together to beat Guinness World Record!

On Friday 1st March 2024, around 100 Wales YFC members made their way down to Cefn Sidan beach in Carmarthenshire to celebrate St David’s Day a little differently. Wearing red rugby shirts, YFC merchandise and daffodil hats the young farmers came together to attempt the Longest Distance game of Tug of War on the longest beach in Wales. Members were cheered on by team captains – Wales rugby legends Scott Quinnell and Elinor Snowsill.

It was Elinors team who came out on top, but everyone who took part on the day were winners! The record was broken, and a new Guinness World Record title was set for the Longest Distance Game of Tug of War. The record to beat was 365 metres and on St David’s Day we set the new record at 516.35 metres (1694 ft).

Wales YFC would like to thank all the members that took the time to travel down to Pembrey County Park to pull together to break the new record.

The attempt was part of numerous record-breaking activities that Welsh language broadcaster S4C recorded to celebrate St David’s Day. You’ll be able to see all the attempts on the “Guinness World Records Cymru 2024” show which airs on Monday 1st April.
