Wales YFC make an impact at The Senedd
On 10th January 2024, members, officials, officers, and supporters from across Wales travelled down to Cardiff to launch the Wales YFC Impact Report at The Senedd.
The County Organisers and Chairs for Gwent, Montgomery, Radnor, Ynys Môn, Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Glamorgan, Brecknock, Meirionnydd and Pembrokeshire all attended and put on a colourful display to showcase all the work and events that go on in their counties throughout the year. Members of Senedd walked around the displays and spoke to different counties.
After attendees enjoyed a delicious buffet sponsored by Forest Arms, Brechfa attendees made their way down to the foyer for the main launch. Samuel Kurtz MS opened the evening with a speech about the importance of the movement, shortly followed by a video that summarised the YFC year highlighting all the events, activities and competitions that go on throughout the year. Wales YFC Chair Rhys Richards then took to the stage to speak about the Impact Report.
Later in the evening, Senior Member of the Year, Endaf Griffiths from Ceredigion YFC transformed into a talk show host as he interviewed Cennydd Jones, Sian Eleri, Leanne Davies and Kate Miles about their experience of the young farmers movement and what skills they use from their time as members in their professional roles highlighting the four key pillars from within the report. 1) Supporting and growing the Welsh language and culture. 2) Supporting, enabling and being the heart of our local rural communities. 3) Building the skills and employability of our members through events, competitions, training, and development. 4) Supporting the health and wellbeing of our members by giving them a place to be themselves, meet friends and try new things. President of the Senedd, Elin Jones joined the panel on stage and delivered kind words about the movement.
The evening was closed with a beautiful rendition of ‘Cae o Ŷd’ by Penybont YFC from Carmarthenshire who had won the One Voice Party Competition at the 2023 Wales YFC Eisteddfod in Ynys Môn.
Wales YFC would like to thank Samuel Kurtz MS for hosting the launch, Forest Arms, Brechfa for sponsoring the launch, Samkat for producing the report, all the members that took part in the presentation, Elin Jones for her kind words, all the YFC counties that attended and the Members of Senedd and partners of Wales YFC that supported the launch.
