The Wales Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (Wales YFC) was honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh to the Wales YFC Centre on Tuesday during the Royal Welsh Show.

During her visit, Her Royal Highness met with Wales YFC Chair, Angharad Thomas, and Vice Chair, Dominic Hampson-Smith, who spoke about the work of the organisation and the opportunities it provides for young people across Wales. They discussed the importance of supporting the next generation of rural leaders and the vital role Wales YFC plays in developing skills, confidence and lifelong friendships.

The Duchess also met with Wales YFC members and volunteers, including members who had just completed the Wales YFC Cooking Competition. She took time to speak with the competitors. Her Royal Highness also enjoyed looking through a selection of club scrapbooks, which showcased the rich history, achievements and community spirit of Young Farmers’ Clubs from across Wales.

With nearly 6,000 members across Wales, Wales YFC is one of the country’s largest rural youth organisations, providing young people with opportunities to develop leadership skills, contribute to their communities and celebrate Welsh rural life and culture.

Angharad Thomas, Chair of Wales YFC, said:

We were delighted to share the work of Wales YFC and introduce her to our members, including those taking part in the Cooking Competition. Her interest in our club scrapbooks and the stories behind them was greatly appreciated.”
