February 2025

Cantal YFC

Name of Club:

Cantal Young Farmers Club

Number of Members:

25

Describe your club in 3 words:

Enthusiastic, small, optimistic

Fundraising accomplishments:

Every year we put on our best singing voices and venture into the hills to surprise the locals with some carol singing, this year has been no exception with over £400 raised for blood bikes. At the beginning of the year we hosted a spiritual and psychic medium; Cerris Hulse, which was extremely well attended raising £350 for the club to fund our pantomime production. We run many Whist drives a year which brings people of all ages from far and wide which is a great social for the older generation on a Friday. In May we run the catering at our local show which is always a great success, it brings the club together and is also a brilliant fundraiser.

Your work within the community:

Many of our members assist with setting up and litter picking following our local show, we also run a competition on show day of ‘It’s and knockout challenge’ which is past vs present members of the club and is always a great crowd pleaser! We also run an Easter bingo for the ‘catch up club’ which is on every Wednesday for the older members of the community to meet up, chat and enjoy different activities and talks from different organisations. A highlight of the year for much of the community is our annual concert of our production (drama, entertainment or pantomime) which is perfect for anyone who was unable to get tickets or attend the performance during the drama festival. We recently came equal 4th out of 12 entries in the Pantomime competition and picked up the award for highest placed smallest club.

Favourite competition:

Being a very small club, we love public speaking as it allows us to enter all categories and have a go, we’ve had much success over the past year coming third place overall. A highlight for the club was coming second at our annual Rally, which is historical for the club as we are usually placed very low down due to being unable to enter all competitions, the main ring display and dancing competitions are always great fun practicing and very competitive!

How do you use the Welsh Language?

Being a predominantly English speaking county we are lucky enough to have multiple bilingual members who all support our other members in promoting the Welsh language.

Any other fun facts or slogans etc.:

“We put the CAN in Cantal” was our slogan on last years Rally shirts as we were the hosts. The club is 67 years old this year and is almost always the smallest club in the county but what we lack in members is made up for in our enthusiasm and determination!!
