Dyffryn Tanat YFC are set to complete ’90 Acts of Kindness’ for their 90th year!

February is Heart Month but one club in Montgomeryshire have been spreading the love since September by completing ’90 Acts of Kindness’ to celebrate their 90th year! We caught up with Hannah Morris from Dyffryn Tanat YFC to hear all about their inspiring initiative!

“This year Dyffryn Tanat is turning 90 years old! Our chair, Elin Lewis, came up with the idea to do ‘90 Acts of Kindness’ throughout the year. Elin thought this would be a good way to give back to our community who are an important part of young farmers. We recognise the importance of organisations and groups in our rural area in encouraging all ages to get involved and socialise.

Our acts of kindness started by helping to make the local park safe to open to the public again. We have helped serve refreshments at a Harvest supper and a local Plygain. More acts of kindness have included mowing and strimming around the local bowling green and cleaning the cenotaph in preparation for Remembrance Day. We found handing out 250 mince pies to locals extremely rewarding. This was a lovely way to reach out to the elderly and spread festive spirit. We have had members putting up the village Christmas tree and stewarding at Welshpool illuminated tractor run.

The club have found it incredibly rewarding completing the acts of kindness so far. We feel it has been an important way of reminding others of the power of simply lending a helping hand. The importance of these acts has already become clear as we have heard back from people whom we have helped in some way or another to tell us the difference we’ve made.

For our 90th year we are going to be having a black tie dinner in June where we can look back on and celebrate the success of the club over the years. We are also planning on having a social night to rewatch a number of clips of previous young farmers years.”
