Through the launch of the very first YFC podcast series, members and friends of the organisation have the opportunity to listen to episodes ranging from informal chats, to humorous accounts of days gone by. All this by following the footprints of its guests.

Episode 21 – Mared Esyllt

Siân Williams from Carmarthenshire digitally interviews Mared Esyllt Evans from Pen-y-bont YFC in Carmarthenshire. Mared is the Wales YFC Senior Member for 2020-21 and we hear about her experiences and memories from first joining her local YFC club, to winning the title of Senior Member of the Year. She shares her memories of the Half Hour Entertainment competitions; her experiences of being an Ambassador for the YFC in Carmarthenshire; and her hopes for the next years as a member of YFC. With the current situation with Covid-19 facing the country, we are lucky that Sian was able to interview Mared digitally. It’s important to note that this podcast was recorded in April during the first lockdown period, and before Mared went on to compete in the NFYFC Senior Member of the Year competition.

Episode 20 – Laura Elliott

Katie Court from Glamorgan YFC interviews Laura Elliott, a former member of Glamorgan YFC and a former Wales YFC Chairman, who now lives in Essex. This episode has been recorded online due to the COVID-19 circumstances and as they chat they reflect on Laura’s time as a member and office of the movement and what she hopes for the organisation in future.

Episode 19 – Elen Jones Monologue

Elen Jones, a member of Ynys Môn YFC, talks about her experiences while suffering from poor mental health and why she started writing blogs and recording vlogs about her experiences.

With it being Mental Health Awareness Week, now is the perfect time to share a podcast from an inspirational individual who is trying to help others in a similar situation. So here’s Elen Jones talking about her experiences with mental health and top tips on how to look after your mental health during the covid-19 pandemic.

Episode 18 – John Jenkins (Troi’r Tir)

John Jenkins, a member from Ceredigion YFC, gives us an insight into life on a chicken farm. The clip is an item from the ‘Troi’r Tir’ programme, with the permission of BBC Radio Cymru.

Episode 17 – Menter Moch Cymru

Members that took part in last year’s competition as well as two from 2017 talking about the Menter Moch Cymru & Wales YFC Pig finishing initiative competition.

Episode 16 – Nia Thomas

Non Gwenllian Williams from Ynys Môn YFC interviews Nia Thomas, a former member and former Ynys Môn YFC President and is now a news presenter on BBC Radio Cymru. This episode has been recorded online due to the COVID-19 circumstances and as they chat they reminisce on memories of when Nia was a member as well as discuss if the organisation has changed over the years.

Cennydd Owen Jones from Ceredigion YFC interviews Lowri Fron, a former member and a former leader in Ceredigion. This episode has been recorded online due to the COVID-19 circumstances and as they chat they touch on Lowri’s history within the organisation and also discuss her current job and how she still has contact with the organisation.

Episode 12 & 13 – Endaf Griffiths

Cennydd Owen Jones from Ceredigion YFC interviews Endaf Griffiths, which is also from Ceredigion YFC. This is a unique podcast where one Young Farmer of the Year for Ceredigion is nearing the end of his time as an officer and another Young Farmer of the Year for Ceredigion about to start on his time in the role. This episode has been recorded online due to the COVID-19 circumstances and as they chat they touch on Endaf’s history within the organisation and also how what he has tried to achieve within his role of Young Farmer of the Year for Ceredigion.

Episode 11 – Mared Esyllt Monologue

Here’s Mared Esyllt, the Wales YFC Senior Member for 2020-21, speaking about her experiences with the current situation up to now and what she’s doing to keep busy.

With the current situation with COVID-19 facing the country members aren’t able to go out and record guests within counties. Taking this into account and appreciating that this will be a potentially difficult and lonely time for some members and friends of the movement. What better way to feel better than to listen to members, former members and friends of the organisation talking about their experiences and reminiscing about days gone by.

Episode 10 – Dewi Parry

Elin Havard, Brecknock YFC, interviews Dewi Parry from Clwyd who has been elected as the NFYFC Chairman for 2020-21. As they chat they touch on why Dewi thinks the organisation if a beneficial to young people in rural Wales and why he decided to go for the Chairman of the National Federation. They also touch on how the skills that members develop, being that how to fail or succeed, prepare them for a successful future.

Episode 9 – Recording of the Wales YFC single

Caryl Haf, the Wales YFC Vice-chairman follows the journey as Wales YFC record their first ever single. The episode includes chats with the soloists in Sain studios, Llandwrog as well as members of the choir in Pontrhydfendigaid, without forgetting Lisa Angharad and Alaw Llwyd Owen.

The first ever single from Members of the Wales Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, a cover of the song ‘Bydd Wych’, will be available to download from the 7th of February with a percentage of the earnings going towards the Welsh language mental health charity Meddwl.org.

Episode 8 – Prysor Williams

Hannah Dobson from Eryri interviews Prysor Williams also from Eryri. Prysor is a former member of the movement in Eryri and is now Senior Lecturer in Environmental Management at Bangor University. In conversation they touch on Prysor’s experiences as a member as well as discussing how the skills members develop as members prepare them for their future.

Episode 7 – 2019 Wales YFC Eisteddfod

Alaw Fflur Jones is amongst all the excitement during the day of the 2019 Wales YFC Eisteddfod in Wrexham

Episode 6 – Hannah Thomas

Elin Havard from Brecknock interviews Hannah Thomas who is from Merthyr Tydfil. Hannah is a friend of the organisation who has judges numerous competitions over the years and works as a television presenter for ‘Coast and County’. As they chat they touch on how important Hannah thinks the organisation is to the development of youth here in rural Wales and discuss how the skills you learn from being a member of young farmers prepare you for later life.

Episode 5 – Eirios Thomas

Endaf Griffiths from Ceredigion interviews Eirios Thomas the former Carmarthenshire YFC county organiser. Eirios now works for Tir Dewi, a charity which offers mental health support to those who live in rural Wales. As they chat they touch on Eirios’ experiences when she was a member herself while also discussing her time as the county organiser in Carmarthenshire for over forty years.

Episode 3 & 4 – Katie Davies

Angharad Edwards from Pembrokeshire interview Katie Davies who is also originally from Pembrokeshire but who now lives in Carmarthenshire. Katie Davies is the current WALES YFC Chairman and is a past member of Llysyfran YFC in Pembrokeshire. As they chat they touch on some of Katie’s greatest achievements while being a part of the organisation while also discussing what the future holds as her year as Wales YFC Chairman has begun.

Episode 2 – Teleri Mair Jones

Non Gwenllian Williams from Ynys Môn interviews Teleri Mair Jones who’s also from Ynys Môn and a former member of Bodedern Young Farmers club who is now a GP on the island. As they chat they touch on Teleri’s experiences with Wales Young Farmers when she was a member and also discuss how the skills she has gained while being a member have been, and still are,  beneficial while working in the medicine profession.

Episode 1 – Alaw Fflur Jones

Alaw Mair Jones from Ceredigion interviews Alaw Fflur Jones who’s also from Ceredigion as she has won the title of Junior Member of the Year this year at a Ceredigion, Wales and National NFYFC level. As they chat they touch on Alaw Fflur’s experience with Wales Young Farmers up to now and discuss how the skills she has gained while being a member have been beneficial while applying for University.
