Club of the Month – March 2025

March 2025

Name of Club:
Llandybie Young Farmers Club
Number of Members:
20 (19 Junior Members and 1 Senior)
Where you meet:
Carmel Hall
Describe your club in 3 words:
Welcoming, Competitive, Fun
Favourite Club Night Activity:
We offer a diverse programme of activities that includes visits to local businesses and organisations such as the Fire Brigade, as well as engaging and educational talks and demonstrations, including CPR training with St John and cookery demonstrations etc. We also value our club nights, particularly those that bring past and present members together—such as our annual dinner and the popular car treasure hunt—as maintaining that connection is important to us. Additionally, we enjoy attending events hosted by other clubs or the County, as these provide great opportunities for our members to meet and socialise with others from across the area. There truly is something for everyone.
Fundraising accomplishments:
As a newly reformed club, we’ve been busy over the past few months raising funds to support our activities. So far, we’ve organised a community quiz night and taken part in local carol singing, both of which have been well received. We’re also incredibly grateful for the generous sponsorship we’ve received from local businesses, whose logos are proudly displayed on our club hoodies. Our sponsors include Rees Richards & Partners, Let Us Furnish, Marc’s Motors, RJ Plant, and Castell Howell Foods. With many more fundraising ideas in the pipeline, we’re excited for what’s to come.
Your work within the community:
One of our current key objectives is to strengthen our presence within the local community. We aim to create mutual benefits by actively contributing to local projects that enhance the area where we live and work, while also encouraging community members to join and support our club. By organising community quiz nights and attending local shows during the summer, we hope to showcase the valuable work carried out by the Y.F.C. and foster greater understanding and support for our activities.
Favourite competition:
Since September, we’ve taken part in a wide range of competitions, including ten-pin bowling and the County Quiz. We were especially proud to win the Eisteddfod Homework Shield, with many of our members achieving top-three placings and earning cups and cards for their efforts. At this year’s Field Day, we were delighted to win the “Promote the Rally” sign competition, and a special congratulations goes to our only senior member, Cerian, who won the County Senior Situations Vacant competition. We’re incredibly proud of every one of our members and hope they continue to embrace new challenges and experiences throughout their YFC journey.
How do you use the Welsh Language?
Welsh language and heritage are hugely important to us as a club. The majority of our members are Welsh speakers, with others having a good understanding of the language. As a result, all of our evenings, including club meetings, are held bilingually. Our Facebook page also reflects this, with all posts shared in both Welsh and English. We believe it’s important to show those outside the organisation who we are and where we come from, and we’re proud to celebrate and preserve our identity in everything we do.
Any other fun facts or slogans etc.:
The club logo is ‘Profiad o Fyw’, which means ‘Experience Living’. The club’s main objective is to take advantage of every opportunity and experience life to the fullest.
